Do you personally select the rugs?

Yes. Our rugs are personally sourced in Morocco. We work directly with trusted suppliers, selecting each piece for its craftsmanship, character, and authenticity.

Are the vintage rugs clean?

Yes. All rugs are professionally hand-washed in Morocco before leaving the country, then naturally sun-dried on rooftops in Marrakech — a traditional process that gently cleans and revives the fibres.

Where required, any repairs are carried out by hand, ensuring each rug arrives ready to be lived with and enjoyed in your home.

Are vintage rugs easy to care for? How often should they be cleaned?

Regular, gentle vacuuming is recommended to keep your rug looking its best. Always avoid harsh suction or rotating brush heads.

For deeper cleaning, we recommend using a professional experienced in hand-washing delicate or vintage rugs. Most Persian carpet specialists can either provide this service or recommend a trusted cleaner. You may notice some fibre shedding when vacuuming — this is normal for vintage rugs and will reduce over time.

How old are your rugs?

Most of our rugs are approximately 30–40 years old, though some pieces may be significantly older.

Certain styles are no longer woven today, making them increasingly rare. For example, traditional Marmoucha rugs were last produced by the original weaving generations around 35 years ago, contributing to their scarcity and collectability.

I saw a rug on your social media, but can’t find it on the website.

All Hikaya Woven rugs are completely one of a kind. Once a piece is sold, it cannot be replaced or restocked.

I love vintage rugs but can’t see exactly what I’m looking for. Can you source one for me?

Yes. We offer a personalised sourcing service and can work with our suppliers to find rugs in specific styles, sizes, or colour palettes. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Can I see what the rugs look like in my home?

Yes. We offer a home visit service within a 100 km radius of Canberra, ACT, allowing you to view selected rugs in your space. Please contact us for further details.

How often do you receive new stock?

New pieces typically arrive every 1–2 months, depending on availability. To be the first to know when new rugs are released, we recommend joining our email list.
